Welcome to a The Widescreen take on season 2 of The Sopranos. Most places now review television on an episode by episode base. So we thought we’d do something different and give you our take on binging the whole second season. Either that or we’re just lazy. Any way without much further ado,
here is our take and tidbits on The Sopranos, Season 2.
here is our take and tidbits on The Sopranos, Season 2.
This season features Tony’s kid going trough his Nihilism phase. Getting into Nietzsche. Early planting of the family depression the plagues Tony’s family. Think about when he tried to off himself with a cinder block in the family pool.
Cristopher is a different kind of rat than Adrianna. Adrianna is a straight up rat, talking to the FBI, but Christopher is the kind of rat that gives away mafia secrets to get in with Jon Favreau. He is the one to write a tell-all script that gets picked up and turned into a book, spilling and blabbing everything just like Adrianna.
Am I cured? Tony asks Dr. Melfi, and we understand there’s a point to therapy he’s going there to get cured of his depression.
The highlight of the second season, is Tony finally figuring out via freudian dreams that Pussy is a rat and he has to get rid of him. Killing him aboard a yacht. To close out the season perfectly. And good thing because Pussy was finally turning around and was about to really blab everything to his FBI friend.
Tony showing up at the waste management company like he’s got a normal job. Sitting down on a desk. Working on the office pool. Funny stuff. The Sopranos can be very funny.
Highlight of the season, Tony buying Janice and Richie April a bigger house than his, “When’d you put in your lawn Tony, I put in mine last week.” Tony can’t take it and has an anxiety attack and has to leave Janice’s new house.
Can’t get enough of Dr. Melfi also having her own therapist, Peter Bogdanovich.
Another highlight of the season is the attempt on Cristopher’s life in the episode “Full Leather Jacket”. He almost dies, spends the following episode in the hospital and revenge is enacted upon the kid from “A Bronx Tale” when he is shot after being given some Fanta. The Fanta a last meal kinda of thing.
Here at the widescreen we didn’t like this season 2 as much before, but after numerous repeat viewings it has really held well, maybe even surpassing the first season. Really truly great early stuff here from The Sopranos. Beautiful cinematography as well. Lush purples.
The season’s weakest point is probably the introduction of muscle man Furio.
Grade: Widescreen.
